On March 24, about 70 community leaders, including state legislators, Greater Lowell municipal and school officials, and members of the YMCA board of directors, trustees and leadership staff, gathered at the Greater Lowell Family YMCA to learn about the Stewards of Children program.
Chelmsford, so far, has been the first to sign on to the Stewards program, and it will soon have 8 facilitators trained to help educate schools, sports leagues, day-care centers, and more. The Lowell City Council also has voted to adopt the program.
“It’s very startling when you look at the statistics and what that math says about just your piece of the world,” Ray Adams, CEO of the YMCA, said. And he is urging other Greater Lowell communities to contact the YMCA to join the program.
