Coy Roy (Bo Rinehart, formerly of Needtobreathe)
Coy Roy, byname Bo Rinehart, was born Nathaniel Bryant Rinehart on December 31, 1981, in Conway, South Carolina. Rinehart, Grammy nominated songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, began his musical career playing guitar, singing, and song writing for co-founded multi-platinum rock band Needtobreathe. Commencing an independent career, Rinehart is re-christened as Coy Roy. The artistry of Coy Roy bids listeners to FEEL their way through sonic experiences for deeper meanings and connections on his debut manifesto. Coy Roy’s debut single “I’m Right Here” is the first chapter in a book of songs that speaks to his journey of healing traumas, among other things, resulting from childhood sexual abuse.
“The song “I’m Right Here” is my six-year-old self speaking to my adult self, saying “you have to deal with what happened, it’s not going anywhere, and I’m still here.” The single was released on September 9th, 2022 and was performed for the first time the following day at the Davis House Button Ball. The Davis House is the regional Child Advocacy Center for Rinehart’s home in Williamson County.
“I want my story to make a difference where it can. I want others to know that they can tell someone and that there are resources available like the Davis House in their area.”
The upcoming releases of Coy Roy’s debut album address adult issues that survivors of childhood sexual abuse may face. The record is my story of what happened to me and the difficulties I faced during years of un-health before addressing my trauma. My hope is that others can use the story in my art to help themselves. The sooner people can get the help they need to navigate the realities and the effects from their abuse, the better the trajectory of lives will be.”
“I believe true art in any form is experienced by connecting with the artist and their story, maybe even more so than the art itself."
