Our hearts are heavy this week with news of the loss of Candice Bates-Quinn, a dedicated friend of Darkness to Light and its staff.
Candy, a long-time administrator with the Charleston County School District, lost a valiant fight with cancer this week. She was truly one-of-a-kind: her passion for helping children in crisis knew no limits, and she was a dedicated advocate for D2L’s Stewards of Children child sexual abuse prevention program.
Her boundless energy for prevention was inspiring. She never missed an opportunity to share her knowledge of the issue and promote the message that prevention changes children’s lives. It was Candy who was instrumental in the implementation of a district-wide training model for schools – one that is still used today.
She confronted the issue of child sexual abuse head-on, even when it was so difficult to talk about that most didn’t. We will miss her humor, her dedication, and her smile. Thank you, Candy, for showing us what true advocacy looks like. Read more about Candy, here.

She is missed and will be hard to replace. Candy was one of a kind a true friend, co-worker, and mentor to me in so many ways. We have worked together for over 15 years through good times and bad. Candy believed in seeing the best in everyone she meant.
