Step 3: Talk about it.
Children often keep abuse a secret, but barriers can be broken down by talking openly about it. Understand why children are afraid to tell. Know how children communicate and recognize they may tell parts of a story and will possibly shut down if you react negatively. Good communication is the key to preventing abuse in the child. Talk often to them about abuse and what they should do if someone acts inappropriately.
