November 20th is World Children’s Day, a day each year to promote international togetherness, awareness among children worldwide, and improving children’s welfare.
November 20th is an important date as it is the date in 1959 when the UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child and in 1989 is when the UN General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
This World Children’s Day, it’s important to remember that it is an adult’s responsibility to protect children. Children should feel safe at home, in school, and in their communities. But it is in these places that most violence against children happens – often at the hands of the people they see every day. In fact, 90% of children who are sexually abused are abused by someone the child knows, including 30% being abused by a family member.
Join us this World Children’s Day as we promote the importance of preventing, recognizing, and responding to child abuse. It’s up to all of us to stand up and speak out to #ENDViolence.
Chances are, a child you know has been impacted by violence. The good news? You can prevent it. Get trained on the prevention, recognition, and reporting of child abuse.
